I’m not a perfect person, and I’m glad that I have the ability to admit it and not feel any guilt over it. I don’t want to beat myself up when I can’t read to the blind, serve at soup kitchens, and save the world all in one day. In fact, I rarely feel the need to read to the blind, serve at soup kitchens, or save the world at all.
I’m materialistic, but since I’m not affluent, the term is pack-rat. I collect baubles and papers and pieces of junk. I once unscrewed several benches from the pavilion at my old high school and kept the screws. I still have them hidden away in a little corner in my closet. What can I say? I’m eccentric.
Sometimes I sit in my room for hours on end doing nothing but crying on the bed and listening to “old people” music. If I’m in the mood I’ll even fantasize about my life as a heroine of the eighties.
This person was interviewing me for a school assignment and asked me, “What advice would you give to the teenagers of today?” I answered promptly, “Advice? I don’t want to give them advice, I want to give them anthrax.” Our future should not belong in such unstable and unreliable Halflings.
I don’t want to go to college because of the money, or because I want a satisfying career. If I could, I’d spend my whole life at college doing nothing but sitting in on classes absorbing all the knowledge that I could. Of course, money would be an issue, but that’s why God made so many old men rich, right?
